Travel Insurance For Over 80 Reviews!
Recent reports say that insurers are shunning senior travelers, those who are 65 and older, refusing to insure them because of their propensity for medical ailments. It hardly seems fair that people who have waited their whole life to be able to travel and see the sights, now have to worry about running up thousands of dollars in medical expenses if, heaven for bid, they turn ill while they are traveling abroad, unable to get to their own doctor or clinic. If travel insurance for the over 65 group is having trouble, what does that say for travel insurance for over 80?
A consumer group study assessed 85 insurance companies and found the following shortcomings in insurance for senior travelers, they weren’t specific to travel insurance for over 80, but if the group was over 65, well over 80 is definitely in that group.
- One-fourth of insurers do not provide annual over 65 travel insurance.
- 9 out of 10 will not cover travel insurance for over 80 year olds.
- 86% of the insurers had a minimum age limit for single-trip travel insurance, and you can bet it didn’t include travel insurance for over 80 year olds.
- 29% of the firms had single trip plans for travelers over 80.
- With this group of insurers, anyone over 65 faces a three-fold rise in premiums.
This is a sad report on travel insurers because it throws a blanket statement over the elderly as if everyone over 65 is too high risk to insure. For starters, it seems to me that if someone desires to travel, and he or she feels up to it, no matter what there age is they ought to be able to do it. And the huge number of baby boomers inching their way to this senior frontier, I bet will be chomping at the bit to get travel insurance for over 80 year olds.
Fortunately, there are interest groups trying to get some government interaction in the decisions of insurers not to provide travel insurance for over 80 year olds, and it’s unbelievable that the insurers lump 65 year olds in the same category. Do they not know that there is a 25 year age span here and, even if there wasn’t, I’ve seen some 80 year olds that could run circles around a 65 year old. So the fact that these insurers are throwing a blanket statement on travelers, just might need government regulation. The oddest thing is, how many of those insurers are baby boomers themselves. I’d like to know.
Still there are a lot of insurers, bless their ever-loving hearts, who do have travel insurance for over 80 year olds. They have different plans to meet the needs of different travelers, even annual travel insurance for the frequent traveler, which can cover just about any eventuality including emergency medical coverage, flight cancellation, hotel overbookings, and lost luggage.
I say, get your travel insurance for over 80, get on that airplane and boogies on over to the Caribbean where you can soak up those very deserved rays of sun.
